What is Artistic Street Photography?
This gallery is dedicated to the more artistic side of street photography. I define artistic street photography to have at least one of these following qualities that dominate the composition.
- Minimalism
- Negative space
- Juxtaposition
- Surrealism
- Irony
- Abstractionism
- Cinematic ambience (includes moody images)
Minimalism
One or two main subjects at most with little to no distraction.

Negative Space
Playing with underexposure, overexposure, and objects to create lots of negative space. Thus, drawing more attention to the subject in the frame.

Juxtaposition
Having two subjects nearly side-by-side for comparison or contrast.

Surrealism
Heavy use of juxtaposition to portray scenes that when taken out of context do not seem real.

Irony
Another technique also using juxtaposition to enhance an unexpected similarity, contradiction, or moment of awkwardness.

Abstractionism
Tightening crops or blurring the lines to make abstract forms of reality.

Cinematic Ambience
Working with light to present slices of life that are reminiscent of moments from a movie frozen in time.
